Piano / Competition

General Information

The competition will be held from 16th to 21th of August 2017 at the Kazakh National University of Arts address: 50 Tauelsyzdyk Ave, Astana, Kazakhstan.

Auditions will be held in the following categories:

I Category – under 12 years

Two or more diverse works. The maximum time of the performance is 10 min.

II Category – 13 – 17 years.

Free program that includes a three-voice invention or prelude and fugue by J. S. Bach from “The Well-Tempered Clavier” and virtuosic composition. The total time of the program should not exceed 12 min.

III Category – 18 – 35 years.

1st Round: Free program including compulsory work by Alexey Shor, Karl Fiorini or Joseph Vella. Prelude and fugue by J. S. Bach from “The Well Tempered Clavier" and virtuosic composition. The total time of the program should not exceed 15 min.

2nd Round: Concert with orchestra from the list:

  1. P. Tchaikovsky – Concerto for piano and orchestra No. 1 in 3 parts.
  2. S. Rakhmaninov – Concerto for piano and orchestra No. 2 in 3 parts.
  3. F. Liszt - Concerto for piano and orchestra No. 1.

* The jury has the right to stop the competitor in case of exceeded time limit of auditions. All compositions must be played from memory.

1st Prize – the laureate diploma and € 15 000 + concert in Malta
2nd Prize – the laureate diploma and 10 000 EUR
3rd Prize – the laureate diploma and 5 000 EUR

6th Prize – the diploma

The best 5 finalists will take part in Malta International Piano Competition (Total Prize Fund 200.000 Euro) which will be held in 2018. 
Malta International Piano Competition will cover all the local expenses of the contestants.

Since 1998 when Albert Mamriev won the 1st Prize at „Delia Steinberg International Piano Competition“ in Madrid, he has established himself internationally as one of the most versatile pianists of his generation. Paolo Baglieri

Paolo Baglieri is one of the most prominent personalities of his generation. Acclaimed as “a pianist that perfectly mixes his personal view with the composer’s ideas”, he is the winner of many international piano competitions. He has performed in Italy, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Spain, Austria, Palestine, Israel and Chile for over 300 concerts in some of the most important concert halls: Taormina, Catania, Lucca, Rome, Turin, Pistoia, Bologna, Verona, Castle of Galeazza, Salzburg, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Paris, Brussels, Castle d’Ursel, Haifa, Jerusalem, Madrid, Santiago of Chile among others.

Timur Urmantcheev

Timur Urmancheev is one of the brightest representatives of Kazakhstan's academic musical art. The creative space of the pianist covers different spheres of his professional activity. Bright soloist, a great accompanist, a brilliant partner in chamber music that’s how you one describes Timur Urmancheev. In the creative unions with Timur Urmancheyev there were well-known Kazakhstan and foreign musicians, among them many recognized masters of musical performance. Speeches of the laureate of international competitions Timur Urmancheev always are a significant event in the cultural life of the country. Touring activities of Timur Urmancheev covers, in addition to the Republic of Kazakhstan, various cities of near and far abroad (France, Austria, Great Britain, Italy, Russia, Finland, etc.).
